The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has decided to phase out the Bachelor of Studies (BS) programs in provincial public colleges, introducing the Associate Degree Program (ADP) as a replacement.
According to an official notification issued by the Education Department, 36 colleges across the province will discontinue their BS programs. Several subjects, including Pashto, Political Science, Urdu, and Pakistan Studies, have been removed from the curriculum under this decision.
The notification explained that the low enrollment rates and high dropout ratio in BS programs were the major reasons behind this move. Authorities stated that continuing with the BS structure was no longer viable, as it did not align with academic demand.
Moving forward, the provincial government aims to introduce market-oriented subjects that will provide students with more relevant educational and professional opportunities. The focus will be on equipping graduates with skills that match the needs of the modern job market, ensuring better employability and long-term career prospects.
This structural change marks a significant shift in the province’s higher education policy, signaling a push towards practical and employment-driven academic planning.
