Islamabad — Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a major oil and gas discovery in Punjab’s Attock district. According to the company, the Dhoke Sultan-03 well is expected to yield 1,469 barrels of oil per day along with 2.56 million cubic feet (MMCF) of gas.
A Significant Milestone
PPL highlighted that this is not only a major achievement for the company and its partner Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL), but also the second largest deep discovery of naturally fractured carbonate reservoirs in the Potohar region. The breakthrough has been credited to advanced engineering skills and the technical expertise of the exploration team.
How the Discovery Was Made
The announcement detailed that the find was made after comprehensive analysis of geological, geophysical, and reservoir engineering data. Improvements in well design and efficient drilling techniques helped the team overcome challenges, ultimately reducing both time and cost.
Partnership and Drilling Timeline
PPL led the project with a 75% operating share, while GHPL contributed with a 25% stake. The drilling of Dhoke Sultan-03 commenced on January 18, 2025, and the well was successfully drilled to a total depth of 5,815 meters.
Boost for Energy Security
Experts believe this discovery will strengthen Pakistan’s energy sector by reducing reliance on imported oil and gas. It marks another important step toward improving the country’s energy security and self-sufficiency.
