The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a devastating report on the widespread flooding caused by overflowing water in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers.
According to Punjab’s Relief Commissioner, more than 3,200 villages have been inundated, displacing and disrupting the lives of nearly 2.452 million people. The floods have also claimed 41 lives, mostly due to drowning incidents, while thousands more remain at risk as rescue and relief operations continue.
The PDMA noted that relief efforts are underway, with emergency shelters being set up to house displaced families. Food, clean water, and medical supplies are being distributed, but officials warn that the sheer scale of the disaster has stretched resources thin.
The flooding not only threatens human lives but also poses serious risks to agriculture, livestock, and infrastructure in Punjab’s rural heartlands. Experts emphasize that long-term measures such as better flood management systems, improved embankments, and early warning mechanisms are urgently needed to minimize future devastation.
This calamity highlights the vulnerability of communities along Pakistan’s major rivers, where seasonal floods continue to wreak havoc year after year.
