Three Schoolchildren Killed, Five Injured in Abbottabad Road Accident

Abbottabad — A tragic road accident on Friday morning claimed the lives of three schoolchildren and left five others injured after a speeding dumper truck ran over them near Lady Garden Park.

Incident Details

According to Abbottabad police spokesperson Azam Mir Afzal, the students were crossing the road on their way to school when the accident occurred. The dumper driver fled the scene immediately, but the vehicle was seized by authorities. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, and police have launched raids to trace and arrest the suspect.

Rescue Efforts

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi confirmed that rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene. The bodies of the deceased and the injured children were transported to DHQ Hospital Abbottabad. Medical staff provided emergency treatment to the injured students, while families of the victims rushed to the hospital in shock and grief.

Public Protest

In the aftermath of the accident, grieving family members and local residents staged a protest by blocking the Old Karakoram Highway. The demonstrators demanded immediate arrest of the driver and stricter traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies. The protest was later called off after police assured the families that the accused would be apprehended soon.

A Recurring Tragedy

This is not the first time Abbottabad has witnessed such heartbreaking incidents. In March 2025, at least two students were killed and nine others injured when a private school van plunged into a gorge in the city’s Tarnoi Qalandarabad area.

The recurring nature of these accidents has raised serious concerns about road safety, reckless driving, and inadequate enforcement of traffic laws in the region. Citizens have urged authorities to implement stronger safety measures, especially near schools and busy pedestrian zones, to protect vulnerable children.
